Canada
Canada, which is another diamond-rich country, wanted to help the crisis that was taking place in Sierra Leone. In 1986, Canada created a organization called
the Partnership Africa Canada to help improve and regulate the legal diamond history. Canada also began creating
laws that would try to stop the trade of conflict diamonds. In December 2002, the Canadian government passed the
Export and Import of Rough Diamonds Act. This act would help control the importing, exporting and transporting of rough diamonds
from Sierra Leone to Canada. If a shipment of diamonds did not meet the requirements of the Export and Import of Rough Diamonds
Act, then officers would have the permission to seize it. This is known as the Canadian Certificate. Canada was also
the major supporting country of passing the Kimberley Process in 2000.
