DeBeers is a privately held company founded by a british businessman named Cecil Rhodes. DeBeers is the largest diamond-mining company and  is located in South Africa and controls much of its diamond trading and mining. Its efforts was to set up cartel with other diamond-producers to control international prices of diamonds. The diamond history of Sierra Leone began in 1963 when DeBeers legally took complete control of the dining prospects in Sierra Leone for the next ninety-nine years.
DeBeers is known for having an uncivilized conduct toward its producers, suppliers, customers, and foreign governments. They also treat poor blacks in South Africa unfairly, by recieving cheap labor from them. Some blacks in South Africa had no other choice but to work for low pay and in cruel conditions so that they can pay their taxes (which DeBeers also contributed to). DeBeers owns 70% of the diamond mines in Africa and is produces more than 40% of the rough diamonds in the world.
